The video we were assigned to watch covers three types of people: pessimists, pragmatists, and those with a vision. Without someone with power and a vision, the group would be unable to move from the present to the future.
In my current position, we are involved in an initiative to transform the way we offer material to our customers. I work for the administrative side, and there are three groups that actually offer the material. Each group, when faced with the task to transform the way to offer material, elected to take different approaches. While each of the approaches has merit on its own, combined it creates chaos and confusion at the organizational level. However, when these issues were brought to the three groups, each of them were unwilling to change their processes. They did not see a need to, and did not understand the value of a collective vision to move into the future with. The three groups were led by pessimists and pragmatists, and they led their own individual "groups".
Those in power elected to create several meetings to discuss the issue. By meeting as one cohesive group, rather than the three different groups and the administrative side, we were all able to agree on the commonalities among the approaches and focus on enhancing those moving forward. In addition, each group was able to see how the confusion and chaos was inadvertently occurring, and acknowledge that this was not the best way to approach the situation. Thus, those in power were able to create a shared vision among all groups. This is allowing us to move forward with a much better plan and approach for the future. We are now in the process of implementing our shared vision, and I am confident this will be a success for my organization!
